BOO Sign

This is Kit's first halloween, and even though he's only 9 months old, I feel that I have to decorate for the occasion.  I'm on a budget of course, so I scrolled through pinterest for ideas, and I got a lot.  And then I got to thinking, and came up with this idea.  So I thought I'd be fun and crafty like all the other bloggers I follow and post a tutorial on my 'BOO' sign!

A few months ago I was cooking dinner and turned on the burner thinking I was bringing the water to a boil.  After changing the little one's diaper and getting him all situated, I walked into a kitchen filled with smoke.  I thought 'How did I burn water?'  I turned on the wrong burner, and my cute little chicken burner cover was toast...literally.  So I held on to the other 3 because I thought that at some point I could be crafty enough to find some way to recycle them.

My cute little burner covers after one was burnt

This seriously is super easy.  I had some spray paint on hand (you could use acrylic paint), and painted my burner covers until you couldn't see the print underneath.

While it was drying, I picked out some scrapbook paper and just cut out the letters to spell 'BOO'.  Once it was done drying, I placed my letters and mod podged onto the painted burner covers.  Be creative here!  Mine are very simple...add some spiders or skeletons or bats to yours, or keep it simple.  The possibilites are endless.  I do like how my 'B' has the googly eyes.

I then glued the smaller oranger cover to the two big black ones.  I had some black ribbon, so I just cut a piece to the length I needed to hang this on my door and glued on the back of the black burner covers.  I doubled my ribbon for a little extra strength.  This really just depends on the ribbon you have and the weight of your covers.

Now all I had left to do...hang it on the door.  Voila!  The finished product!
